Now I know I’m not best person to talk about meditation, in as much as I don’t sit as regularly as I should and of late I’ve been more distracted than focused when it comes to meditating. I tend also to fall asleep or drift of day dreaming.
But meditation is more about quality then quantity – you could sit there for hours each day and some people do. But I’ve got other things to do too, but even finding 5mins a day or when you can, can help. You can build it up to longer if you want or need it.
Here’s a short little guided meditation – you can read / recall yourself or download the audio file.
Grat if you’ve never tried before, just realx and follow the instructions. There is no right or wrong way to do it and just accept the images you get. If you can’t see the things in front of you – can you hear something going on, can you smell it? Not everyone can see but give it a go.
Make yourself comfortable.
Take a few deep breaths, relax your body and centre yourself.
Imagine that you are stood in a place that makes you feel safe, secure and loved.
Take moment to look around. Is a place you’ve visited or a special place just for you to meditate in?
As you look around in front of you there is a box with a lid. This box belongs to you.
You reach out and open the box – what’s inside it?
How does this make you feel? Is it a physical object? If so in your imagination hold it in your hands? Does it hold a message for you?
Time has come to the put it back in the box.
But know that this box is yours. You need only to think of it and it bring the box and your object back to you.
Take a minute to focus once more on your breathing. Take two long slow deep breaths become aware once more of your physical body and return into it. I want you to Wiggle your fingers and toes. Stretch your body and return to the room with a smile on your face.
Sometimes you may feel a little light headed after a meditation so make sure you a fully grounded (have something to eat or drink, stomp your feet, imagine your legs have tree roots going deep into the ground connecting you to it. Whatever works for you) before moving off.
